Stephen Revell understands the execution challenges many law firms face when addressing internal firm and partner issues. As a former Freshfields partner with over 45 years of experience, Stephen is uniquely qualified to advise firms on all aspects of law firm management. This expertise led him to establish Making Change Happen, a consultancy dedicated to transforming how firms approach these complex issues.
During his 33 years as a partner at Freshfields, Stephen led the StrongerTogether relationship program, which involved over 400 law firms worldwide. Having lived on three continents—North America, Europe, and Asia—and managed transactions in more than 50 countries, he brings a global perspective informed by a deep understanding of law firm leadership. His extensive discussions with firm leaders and clients over the years have shaped his insights into the full spectrum of law firm management challenges.
Stephen is an active speaker on a broad range of topics and a frequent participant in IBA events, particularly those related to the Law Firm Management Committee, where he serves as an officer. He is a Non-Executive Director of Crown Resorts, Australia’s leading entertainment group, and serves as honorary Chairman of MD Communications, a PR and reputation consultancy. In addition, he holds several other board positions across law firms and companies and is also an accredited mediator.
Recently, Stephen edited the second edition of the IBA/Globe Handbook on Business Development, offering a practical guide to the theory, tools, and skills needed for effective law firm business development. The book includes valuable insights from interviews with 12 general counsel, which make it an essential resource for today’s law firms.
With his global perspective and a client-centered approach, Stephen Revell is prepared to help law firms “make change happen.”
